E3 2018 officially kicked off with the EA Play presentation. Turns out, it was actually pretty disappointing overall. There were some hidden gems though so let's get into it...
First up, Battlefield V was shown off with the new levels of destruction and also a brief announcement that a Royale mode will be coming to be game after launch.
Next up, FIFA 19 got some of the spotlight in which the Champions League will be included. The game will release on September 28th 2018. Along with that, EA announced that a full game trial of FIFA 2018 including the World Cup DLC is out now for Xbox One, PS4, and PC for free!
EA is amping up their subscription service and introducing a new tier called EA Access Premier. This will include game streaming.
While we did not get any information in regards to a new Titanfall or their secret third project, Respawn Entertainment was able to provide us with the name of their new Star Wars game. It will be called Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order and will take place between the events of episodes three and four. In other words, it will take place during the 'dark times' where the Jedi are being hunted. The game will release sometime Holiday 2019 (in other words it will more than likely be delayed).
Speaking of Star Wars, Battlefront 2 will be receiving new DLC that is focused on the SOLO film that has recently been released within theaters. Not only that but the game will also be receiving DLC from the Clone Wars, something that the fans have been wanting for quite some time. This will include new locations and characters such as General Grievous, Obi Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Count Dooku. No word on release date at this time.
Moving on, Yarny is BACK and this time in Unravel Two. Oh, and the game is out now!
Sea of Solitude is a new game from the EA Originals line up (the same lineup that brought us A Way Out) and it is looking incredible. Focused on loneliness and sadness, the game follows a girl who, by being sad, becomes a monster.
NBA Live 19 and Madden NFL 19 had incredibly short trailers. No release date information at the time of this post.
Something I don't think I have ever seen during a press conference was an actual professionally casted match of a mobile game. Yes, they spent time on this and also yes, it was cringy as all hell. The game is called Command and Conquer: Rivals and the technical alpha is available now on Android. The game will be fully releasing on iOS and Android later.
Finally, the show was closed with some Anthem and we finally got some more details on the game. It will be a shared world shooter with more emphasis on story *cough* Destiny *cough* Warframe *cough*. Sorry, had something in my throat there. Also, while there will not be any loot boxes, there will be paid for vanity cosmetics. Those cosmetics will not affect power within the game but that is all of the detail we have on it at this time. The game is slated for release on February 22nd 2019 on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
And that does it for EA this year. Not much else to say. Time to see what the others have to offer as the week continues.
Thank you for reading/watching and as always, keep it locked for all other E3 2018 press conference recaps.
