Square Enix E3 2019 Press Conference Recap

Square Enix can usually be a mixed bag when it comes to their press conference every year. For 2019, however, it appears as though Square have stuck to their wheel house. Creating unbelievable role playing games and listening to what the fans want. While there were a couple curve balls thrown, that name of the game here is RPG. Let’s get into the announcements.

Taking center stage and opening the show was Final Fantasy VII Remake along with a lengthy presentation about gameplay mechanics, and the game in action. We also FINALLY got a release date. Final Fantasy VII Remake will release on March 3rd, 2020. Keep your mind open about this one. It is called a remake for a reason and it looks badass.

Next up was a short but sweet Life is Strange 2 trailer including some streamer reactions to playing the game. Really, this was an accolades trailer and you know what? I still need to play through it so maybe the trailer is working on me.

How about a game that no one thought would get nor need a remaster? Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition will include online multiplayer and will launch on PS4, Switch, iOS, and Android. Maybe this mobile port won’t be shit. I see you and your terrible mobile port track record Square. Don’t fuck this one up.

Octopath Traveler got a quick trailer, reminding everyone that the game is now on Steam. Just a heads up, the game is still $60 on steam. I don’t care how pretty your game is. It is a little older, drop that price please!

How about ANOTHER game that no one thought would get nor need a remaster? The Last Remnant Remastered was given a reveal trailer along with the announcement that the game is available right NOW on the Nintendo Switch.

Dragon Quest Builder 2 was next and was given a lengthy gameplay trailer highlighting everything new within the sequel. Launching exclusively on the PS4, Dragon Quest Builders 2 releases on July 12th, 2019. A demo will be available on June 27th, 2019.

Speaking of Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age S - Definitive Edition (fuck me that is a mouthful) will release on the Nintendo Switch this Fall of 2019 and will allow the switching between graphical styles which is pretty cool I guess. Hey Square, change the name of your game please?

Do you like racing games? How about top down racing games? No? Me neither. But this new one called Circuit Superstars could be fun. Who knows? We might find out when the game releases in 2020 on Steam, PS4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch.

Looking for some more shooty shooty bang bang? Battalion 1944: Eastern Front is available now on Steam. Square Enix wants you to play this game so they are showing off cosmetics that can be earned.

Hey! Remember when Final Fantasy soundtracks were only able to be listened to by purchasing directly from Square Enix or torrents? Yeah, fuck that noise. ALL Final Fantasy soundtracks are now available on all music streaming services. Thank fucking God.

Back to the games. Kingdom Hearts 3 is getting some DLC that is sure to make you more confused as to what is even happening in the game anymore. Granted, it looks pretty. Kingdom Hearts 3: Re-Mind releases Winter 2019.

Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers had a story trailer on display, reminding you that this game is amazing and everyone should play it. FINAL CORNDOG FANTASY FOR LIFE!

Dying Light 2 was next with a new gameplay trailer. The game releases in Spring of 2020.

Well hot damn, how about a couple MORE games that no one thought would be making their way stateside? Romancing Saga 3 and Saga Scarlet Grace Ambitions (seriously, where are these names coming from?) are coming soon to the west.

War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Bra- Alright hold the fuck up. I haven’t even finished typing the full name of the game out yet but I felt I had to stop and address this monstrasity. I thought those other game names were terrible. Whoever is at Square Enix and is okaying these names needs to be fired immediately. I mean come on. Alright, rant over. War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is currently in development and got a shit trailer to go along with the announcement.

Outriders, from the creators of Bulletstorm and Gears of War: Judgement, is a brand new game that looks incredible even if we didn’t get actual gameplay. Outriders will be releasing in Summer 2020 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Onikani was next with a reveal trailer. This game will be releasing August 22nd, 2019 on PS4, Steam, and the Nintendo Switch.

Remember when every company was remastering games left and right for a couple years and everyone called those years the years of remasters? Well, not Square Enix. THIS year is their year of remasters. Final Fantasy VIII Remastered will be releasing in 2019 on PS4, Xbox One, Steam, and the Nintendo Switch.

Last but certainly not least was the reveal of the new Marvel Avengers game by Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics. While we did not get a full gameplay reveal, we did learn some valuable information. The release will be a games as a service model, with multiple years of content planned. Additional characters and zones will be free and no loot boxes will be within the game. Marvel Avengers will release on May 15th, 2020 on PS4, Xbox One, Stadia, and PC. There is an exclusive content deal with PlayStation in which users will receive early beta access and unique ‘benefits‘ to be revealed in the future.

And that is the end of the Square Enix E3 2019 press conference. Plenty of awesome announcements included and also plenty of redundant game names. Make sure to keep it locked here for all the E3 2019 press conference recaps.
